The Golden Cup, engineered in

Great drip coffee is not a mystery. It is water at the right temperature, spread evenly over fresh grounds, for exactly long enough. Bonavita brewers are built around those three facts and certified by the Specialty Coffee Association.

195 to 205°F

The exact window the Specialty Coffee Association measures Golden Cup extraction by. Bonavita holds it through the whole cycle, not just at the spike.

Even every time

A wide showerhead saturates every ground from the first pour, so you get a full, balanced cup instead of a half-extracted one.

Never burnt

No hot plate. Double-wall thermal carafes lock in heat without a heat source, so the last cup tastes like the first.

One button

No menus, no modes, no screens to fail. Optional pre-infusion lets fresh grounds bloom, then the machine does the rest.

Every Bonavita brewer is an SCA Certified Home Brewer. Bonavita machines are used by judges in World Coffee Competitions.

Bonavita means the good life.

The name is Italian and the brief was simple: café-quality coffee at home, without the ceremony. For fifteen years Bonavita brewers have been engineered to one standard, the SCA Golden Cup, and they have ended up everywhere that standards matter, from competition judging tables to the Wirecutter test kitchen.

The New York Times Strategist put the Connoisseur in its Kitchen Hall of Fame as the best less-expensive coffee maker. CNET gave it an Editors’ Choice. The formula has not changed: fewer parts, exact temperature, honest materials, and a price that makes sense for something you use every single day.

  • Simple by design Fewer parts, fewer breakages, one switch. The machine disappears into your routine.
  • Trusted where it counts Cafés, competition judges and families who brew every morning, not once a month.
  • Priced for daily use Artisan coffee without the artisan invoice. The value is in the cup, not the badge.

Precision in the pour

A gooseneck is not a style choice. It is flow control, and flow control is flavor. Every Bonavita kettle holds your exact degree while you pour at your own pace.

Questions, answered

Everything people ask before their first Bonavita, and a few things they ask after.

Bonavita is Italian for “the good life”. For us it means a specific kind of morning: café-quality coffee at home, made by a machine you never have to think about. Quality and simplicity, every day.

Right here. Every Shop and Check Price button on bonavita.world leads to the official Bonavita store, which ships internationally. Bonavita brewers are also stocked by Amazon and authorized kitchen retailers worldwide.

No. Bonavita is an American brand with Seattle coffee roots, developed with long-time manufacturing partner Smartco. Like most premium small appliances, the machines are manufactured in China to Bonavita’s specification and tested against the SCA Golden Cup standard before certification.

Hotter is not better, correct is better. The Specialty Coffee Association sets the ideal brewing window at 195 to 205°F. Bonavita brewers use a 1500 W heater to reach the top of that window fast and hold it through the entire cycle, which is why they are SCA certified. A machine that boils harder does not extract better; a machine that holds temperature does.

Rinse the carafe, filter basket and lid after each brew; those parts plus the showerhead are dishwasher safe. Descale the machine about every 100 uses with a quality phosphate-free descaler. Skip the vinegar: it descales poorly, rinses badly and can leave an odor in your next pot. If the brewer steams more than usual, it is time to descale.

The Connoisseur is the most reviewed brewer we make, rated 4.8 out of 5 across hundreds of owners. CNET scored it 8.6 with an Editors’ Choice award, and the NYT Strategist named it the best less-expensive coffee maker in its Kitchen Hall of Fame. It brews to the same standard as machines costing twice as much.

Both are SCA-certified 8-cup brewers. The Connoisseur is one-touch purity: a single switch and a hanging flat-bottom basket. The Enthusiast adds a removable 1.2 L water tank, a dedicated Bloom button and a brew-through lid, in stainless or matte black. Same Golden Cup, different workflow.

Yes. The 5-Cup One-Touch uses the same brewing logic: SCA window temperature, showerhead saturation and a thermal carafe. It is simply sized for one or two people and for kitchens where counter space is the constraint.

About six minutes for a full 8-cup carafe. That sits comfortably inside the SCA’s recommended window: fast enough for fresh coffee on a work morning, slow enough for full extraction.

Because a hot plate keeps coffee warm by cooking it. Within half an hour a glass pot on a burner turns bitter. Bonavita brews into a double-wall thermal carafe that holds heat for hours with no heat source, so the last cup tastes like the first.

The carafe lid, filter basket and showerhead are dishwasher safe, top rack is kindest. The brewer body, tank and electrics are not; wipe them with a damp cloth. Hand washing keeps everything looking new longer.

Medium grind, about 10 grams of coffee per 5 oz cup, roughly 60 to 67 grams for a full 8-cup carafe. Fresh beans and a burr grinder matter more than any setting on the machine. Use filtered water for the cleanest cup.

The BV1900TD was the programmable 8-cup model in the 1900 series. The current line focuses on one-touch brewing: press one switch and the machine handles temperature, bloom and timing itself. Most owners find they never miss the clock.

The Specialty Coffee Association’s Certified Home Brewer program tests machines against the Golden Cup standard: brewing temperature of 195 to 205°F, total brew time and uniform extraction, benchmarks built on decades of Coffee Brewing Center research. Only a small group of home brewers worldwide qualifies. Every Bonavita brewer is one of them, and Bonavita machines are used by judges in World Coffee Competitions.
